  WTS Deception on Alternative Military Service

  until 1996 the watchtower society's official policy was that a young jw man who volunteered for alternative military service, rather than being imprisoned or letting a court sentence him to some kind of alternative civilian service, had violated christian neutrality and therefore was either to be disfellowshipped or declared to have voluntarily disassociated himself from the jw organization.

  beginning in 1978, the governing body voted on changing this policy a number of times, and generally had a simple majority who voted for change, but because the gb had a policy that all changes needed a 2/3 majority, and that was never reached until 1996, the policy remained.. in 1996, it appears that jehovah changed his mind, and so via divine direction instructed the governing body to change its policy.

  This makes me crazy! I have two brothers-in-law who did hard time in Marion, IL federal penitentiary because of this goofy rule. What a horror to go through for nothing!

  I wonder if the Greek brothers who spent so much time in solitary confinement for their WT-based beliefs are feeling good about this change in the collective conscience?

  Especially since the reason many of them were in solitary was their refusal to have smallpox vaccinations...

  SUMMER,MAKING TIME 4 FUN/RELAXATION

  many of us exiting the wts were limited and restricted regarding our free time/vacation activities.most activities didn't meet with wts approval for various 'reasons'.

  Well, we have the Saturday night Dungeons&Dragons sessions at our house; Papa is the DM, and the guys drink quarts of Dr. Pepper and the Dew and munch Cheetos while killing and being killed in epic fashion. Good, clean fun for all ages!

  We's po' folks so we try to find the cheap/free fun things to fill our free time. Nature walks at local parks and arboretum are always relaxing. Our community does free concerts on the square all summer long. The local rod club does terrific fundraisers with classic car shows and live music. The library has activities all summer long, as well as a summer reading contest that's always fun. If we have a couple bucks we might do a movie matinee; it's a great way to get cool and I love taking Little to kid films... the childrens' laughter is always therapeutic!

  When it's too stickyhot to breathe, we huddle in my air conditioned bedroom and watch movies. A cooler full of ice, pitcher of tea, couple of sandwiches, and a family fave movie (Blues Brothers 2000 plays anytime to applause) and we are set for a long afternoon/evening of enjoyment.

  Simple pleasures, guilt-free... aah, the good life!

Did he get nabbed for his online apostasy at last?

  I'm serious, if anyone knows how to contact You Know, please find out if he's ok. I'm afraid the cognitive dissonance may have reached critical mass for him. Although I think he's full of shit right up the eyebrows, I wouldn't want him to suffer unnecessarily, or to suffer alone.

  Speak for yourself, dimbulb. My life is full and complex and sweet/sour/salty/bitter, a gourmet delight, a daily adventure. I don't have to anthropomorphize the bigger cycles of life in order to appreciate the complexity and wonder of the universe. I feel sorry for you that you do.

  Those of us who have rejected your Skydaddy concept have done so after long careful investigation. I don't care what crutch you use to prop up your fearful ass, and I 'm not selling alternative crutches. Why are you so terrified of the very idea of atheism that you have to pretend atheists are somehow a menace? You're the one selling a God/salvation package. All we've done is refuse to purchase. How is that 'venomous'?

  Maybe you're tasting sour grapes because atheists don't feel a need to be 'saved' from anything, and you envy that. Maybe you're experiencing cognitive dissonance at the very notion that people can live happily without the Bible or its killergod. Whatever it is, your accusations are unfounded and your assertions laughable and unproveable.

  i have only recently been df'd, so i struggle with what i believe regarding god and the bible.

  as you all would know, its a long process reprogramming our minds from all the lies and shit we were taught by the organisation.

  Revelation was a DREAM that John had. Probably he was under the influence of a hallucinogen when he had that dream. The whole book of Revelation is a fevered fantasy. And remember that some scholars don't even believe Revelation should have made the final canonical cut to be included in the Bible!

  Armageddon is a spiritual event, not an actual place of war. Try reading the book as if it were allegorical, without any prophetic mumbo-jumbo. It makes a lot more 'sense' when viewed that way. It is a lot less scary when you keep it in its context.

  That fear is the biggest meanest chain the Society uses to shackle the hearts and minds of its slaves. As you keep studying and learning, the fear will probably be replaced with righteous anger that you were held in those shackles unnecessarily just so you could help make money for a publishing house.

  Don't worry, though, there is lots of help to recover, both from the fear, and from the rage that may replace it.

  The best thing you can do for yourself is to read every commentary and discussion you can find about the Bible in general and Revelation in particular.
  Remember that JWs DON'T teach the Bible, they teach the Society's interpretation of the Bible. Do yourself the courtesy of finding out what many other sources have to say about it. How do you know what to believe if you don't genuinely check out all available information?

  Welcome out of the Dark Tower's shadow and into the light of personal responsibility. It can be scary but OOOH! It's exhilarating to find out you can indeed think clearly and make choices NOT based on fear or guilt!

  HATED every second of it. I hated being scared to pieces by the Paradise book and hated every boring minute of the 'family' study in the Let God Be True book. Hated the hypocritical tightassed weirdos presiding over the cong. Hated field service, thought it was a really rude thing to bang on doors telling people they needed to buy these crappy books to keep God from killing them.

  I hated being the freak at school, sitting in the hallway during holiday prep and sitting in the office studying while the other kids had their holiday party or pep rally. Hated missing the field trip to a cathedral to hear a real classical orchestra, hated not being allowed to join the choir or sing a solo in the intramural competition, or play drums in the band. I hated getting sneered at by Jdubs for winning the district spelling bee and going to the regional competition; hated being humiliated by an elder's daughter who made it sound like I had done something unsavory and shameful by competing and (gasp!) winning!

  The guilt and fear would overshadow the resentment, and then I would hate myself for being 'ungrateful for Jehovah's fine loving provision.' Then I would try again, even harder, to immerse myself in the bullshit and pretend it was 'happifying.' The fear and guilt convinced me I couldn't love or serve God anyplace but inside the cult, so no matter how bad and incomplete I felt, I kept going back.

  I really hated raising my babies in that alleged 'loving provision' by those shitty horrible rules, and my last few years inside the cult were a churned-up mess of cognitive dissonance, trying to be grateful for what was killing my heart and my babies' joy in living.

  For all the problems and challenges life has thrown at me since then, I'm still infinitely happier than I ever was inside the cult. I have a great marriage and a good honest relationship with my kids. We aren't perfect and we never ever claim to have The Answers. And we don't need, want, or search for a salvation package. There's nothign to need saved FROM. This life is all we have, and we do what we can with what we have. It's simple but not easy. And it's a million times better than being a walking advert for one of America's wackiest millenarian cults.

  the title to this post sounds impressive, but i am not going to do to much here that is too technical, except to draw attention to the general scope of jw justice, and the shear battlefield of religious victims.

  i will evaluate just the usa statistics.

  many of my numbers are estimates, but i have reason to believe that they are generally representative of reality.. there are about 1,000,000 jws in the usa, in about 7,000 congregations.
